On January 11, 2011 operations in the Gardez District resulted in the capture of six criminal insurgents
who have been involved in facilitating attacks as well as IED Attacks on local nationals, ANSF and CF’s.
Two of the men, were Taliban Sub Commanders, responsible for building, distribution and emplacing
of IED’s that kill and injure Afghan villagers and security forces. The Insurgents were captured without
a shot being fired. Great care was taken by the ANSF in order to protect the village and the Local
Nationals in the area. Two local village elders met with ANSF and CF to discuss the purpose of the
operation and make sure that no one was needlessly injured or no damage was caused to property.
The insurgents have repeatedly hid among the innocent people of Gardez. A devout Muslim would not
kill other innocent Muslims and would not hide behind children and elders.
The capture of the insurgents by Afghan forces represents a victory for the people of Gardez by
removing an individual responsible for intimidation of the local populace and violent acts against
innocent people from the village. Thank you for your continued support as Afghan Forces work hard to
