Qatar  will Represent the United States in Afghanistan

The United States and Qatar have signed an agreement under which Qatar will act as a protector and defender of certain US interests in Afghanistan.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also signed a document during a meeting with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

According to the Reuters news agency, Qatar has agreed to protect US interests in Afghanistan and the document will take effect on December 31.

A Reuters report quoted the US Secretary of State as saying that a unit would be set up at the Qatari embassy in Kabul to provide some services to the US consulate.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said: "Qatar has a US-affiliated unit at its embassy in Kabul that will provide some consular services as well as diplomatic oversight of the US situation and security in Afghanistan."

The United States and Qatar signed the document at a time when the United States and some other Western nations have closed their embassies in Afghanistan since the fall of the previous government.
